Baldwin Reichwien shared this information from the Alberta College; voting is in process now. The ACSW Background document is extensive and gives a good sense of how Alberta got to this decision point for the membership.
Consultation for Membership with CASW
At the October 24, 2014 Alberta College of Social Workers Council meeting a motion was approved for conducting a vote by the members on the question of ACSW resuming membership with the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW).
A subcommittee of Council has prepared a Background document and a History/Summary document. You can read these two documents by clicking on the titles below:
The CASW have also provided two Summary Documents for consideration:
* The above updated information about fee proposals was provided by CASW: As per the document the proposed fee formula was adopted by the federation partners in January 2011. The proposed formula called for elimination of all flat fees for all Partner Organizations; elimination of all student fees; elimination of fees for non-paying members and a reduction in fees for associations over 2000 members to $15 per member. CASW estimates that the proposed formula would result in an overall reduction in fees to ACSW of approximately $95,000 from the current fee formula used by the federation. This proposed formula was never instituted following the decision of ACSW and OASW to leave the federation as of March 2011 however CASW anticipates that it would apply to the full federation if either ACSW or OASW rejoins the federation.
Voting for the CASW question will coincide with the ACSW Council Elections which start on January 25, 2015 and will continue until March 12, 2015 (date of close of elections).
