Citizen’s Academy supports civic engagement on City budget

Ottawa’s Citizen’s Academy which supports civic engagement, shared a consultation on City of Ottawa 2016 budget.  They provide a report.

For the second time, Citizens Academy was called on to assist the urban city councilors in animating their budget consultations.  In early October, BudgetSpeak looked forward to the 2016 Budget, asking citizens to set priorities and then advise on how to pay for what they wanted.  The report, released on November 12, can be read here.

Councillors Tobi Nussbaum and Mathieu Fleury hosted their session at the St. Laurent Complex; while Councillors Catherine McKenney and Jeff Leiper met the public at Makerspace North. The intention was to continue to experiment with how citizens’ voices can be better incorporated into the City Budget process.

Citizens showed up and stepped into lively discussion. They asked thoughtful questions, and made insightful comments and recommendations. These recommendations, both on budget and process, will help Councillors form their own opinions and represent their wards at the Council table. …  see rest of post: BudgetSpeak 2016
