The ‘methods section’ in research publications on complex problems – Purpose

Useful reminders for both researchers and … the reader on research and how they got there.  Less pretending, leading to more contributing and building a solid direction, even if not as rigorous as … hoped.. From Gabriele Bammer https://i2insights.org/author/gabrielebammer/

It’s worth reminding ourselves about the purposes of the methods section; essentially there are four:1.    to allow the reader to understand how the problem was tackled2.    to allow the reader to judge whether the most up to date and suitable methods were used, and if the methods were used appropriately3.    to allow the reader to judge whether the authors’ interpretation of the results is justified given the methods used4.    where appropriate, to enable replication of the research.
